What’s New in December: Vegan Frozen Dessert Innovations

December sure was an innovative time in the vegan frozen dessert industry, with many brands preparing for Veganuary 2024 (a month of plant-based eating)! From Cornetto-style creations to a new flavor reminiscent of a traditional Malay kueh cake dessert, brands kept us guessing what debuts would be released next.

Our Pick of the Month goes to Little Moons and its new Blood Orange and Pink Grapefruit Refreshos. The fun addition to the brand’s range combines tasty sorbet, blood orange and pink grapefruit bitterness, and sweet mochi dough for a truly unique flavor!

Let’s dive into what can be found in grocery store aisles worldwide this month!

Blood Orange and Pink Grapefruit is the new lively and refreshing addition to Little Moons’ best-selling Refreshos range!

The 6x32g pack of bite-sized, artisanal gelato balls combines sweet sorbet with the bitter flavors of seasonal blood orange and pink grapefruit. The brand's distinctive soft mochi dough envelopes the delectable treat.

Like the rest of the Refreshos range, the new debut is vegan, gluten-free, free from artificial flavorings, colorings, and preservatives, and is less than 60 calories per ball.

They’re listed with an RRP of £5.00 ($6.36USD) at major UK retailers, including ASDA and Morrisons.

Ice Cream & Cookie Co. Creates a Dairy-Free Onde-Onde Frozen Dessert! Singapore

A new flavor from Ice Cream and Cookie Co. captures the essence of Onde Onde, a traditional Malay kueh cake dessert! The company ensures the taste is as authentic as possible using ingredients including 100 percent pure pandan (a tropical plant with fragrant leaves and a sweet, delicate taste).

The refreshing treat pairs a fragrant, dairy-free pandan coconut milk base with chewy mochi bits, desiccated coconut, and gula melaka (a type of palm sugar) swirl. Each spoonful contains a delicate balance of texture and sweetness, made using a refreshing coconut milk base and infused with 100% all-natural pandan extract.

The 473mL pints can be purchased at Singapore’s leading retailers or online for $13.20SGD ($9.90USD)

Strawberry Cheezecake Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert from Ben & Jerry’s! United States

This oat-based frozen dessert version of classic strawberry cheesecake comes jam-packed with strawberry cheesecake greatness and a fantastic graham-cracker swirl. Made with the brand’s new “creamier-than-ever” oat milk recipe, the treat mimics cheesecake's tart and sweet flavor.

Look for the 473mL pint at nationwide retailers or purchase a cone at a nationwide Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop.
